Iain's Bookshelf: books and tools I recommend

Click is a great book for distilling a product idea down into its most fundamental components. This intensive process delivers what the authors call a ‘foundational hypothesis’, a crystal clear statement that encompasses everything that you’re trying to achieve, and how you plan to achieve it. Once this concept clicks with you, you’ll never want to build a product without a foundational hypothesis again.

The Choice Factory is a brilliant book for giving inspiration to your marketing and product initiatives. My copy is full of notes and underlining and I pick it up whenever I need to come up with some strong copy aimed at getting users to take action. I also own the Illusion of Choice and Hacking the Human Mind, but in my humble opinion the original is best.

This is a great introduction to bullet journalling. I still feel like I barely scrape the surface of the methodology but the basics are easy to follow and keep me on rails.

Since I started bullet journaling in around 2020, I haven’t stopped. I genuinely believe they should teach it in schools, I know I would certainly have benefitted from being shown a note-taking method instead of just scrawling and doodling. You can use any notebook but I prefer the soft covered moleskins. Blue is my favourite although I never have the same colour twice in a row so that I know which book is the outgoing and which is the incoming.
